Our 3 Day Santorini Itinerary
Soaking up the beauty, savoring the moments, and refusing to run ourselves ragged.
Ever come home from a trip and feel like you need a vacation from your vacation? Yeah, us too.
This 3-day Santorini plan is a little different. No frantic sightseeing marathons here. We’ve built in plenty of time to slow down, soak up the views, and just ease your way through the island.
Instead of racing around trying to see it all, here’s what we’re actually focusing on:
- Actually experiencing the good stuff.
- Giving ourselves time to enjoy it.
- And moving through each day without feeling like we’re on a game show timer.
Perfect for:
- Travelers 50+, first-time visitors, and honeymooners
- Anyone who likes their travel with a side of enjoyment and a lot less rushing around
WANDER SNAPSHOT
- Best time to visit: April – Early June, September
- Ideal trip length: 3-4 days
- Pace level: Relaxed to moderate
- Walking level: There are hills, uneven streets, and plenty of steps. Your calves might complain now, but they’ll thank you later.
- Best area to stay: Imerovigli
Wandering Wisdom: Sometimes, doing less means experiencing more. Give yourself a break and just enjoy the ride.
Day-By-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival + Settling In
Focus: Ease into Santorini
Travel/Arrival
- Arrive, grab your bags, and head to your hotel. If you’re smart (and we know you are), pre-book your ride or let your hotel sort it out. It’s about 20 minutes to Imerovigli, 15 to Fira, and 20-25 to Oia—unless you get distracted by the views, which is totally allowed.
- Check in, drop your bags, and take a breather. If you’ve just survived an overnight flight from the US, you’ve earned a little downtime to freshen up and find your second wind.
- We took quick showers, freshened up, and made a beeline for the pool with drinks in hand. Nothing like sipping something cold while soaking in that sunny caldera view.
Afternoon
- Option 1:
- Take a light stroll and do some gentle exploring in Fira — no need to break a sweat just yet.
- Find a bar with a view and watch the sunset do its thing. Bonus points if you have a glass of wine in hand.
- Option 2:
- Or just lounge by the hotel pool and soak it all in. You traveled a long way for that view, so don’t feel guilty about milking every minute of it.

Evening
- Grab an early dinner somewhere close by. We stumbled into a tiny family-run taverna with friendly faces and food that made us want to move in.
Pacing Notes
- Keep this day intentionally light. Let yourself wander and see where you end up.
- Skip anything that requires you to watch the clock.
- Rest is the name of the game after your journey to the island.
Day 2: Take in all the ways to view the Caldera
Focus: Seeing the Caldera
Morning
- Ask the hotel for a takeaway breakfast to eat on the way to the marina.
- Caldera sailing adventure. Yes, it’s an early pickup, but trust me, it’s worth it.

Mid-Day/Afternoon
- The sailing trip ends at Ammoudi Bay. You can ask your tour to drop you there, but heads up: you’ll be hiking up the hill on your own. Take a swim in the crystal-clear water, then grab a seat at any seaside restaurant for fresh seafood and a drink. You’ve earned it.
- Wander Oia after you conquer the 200-or-so steps up. Consider it your daily workout.
Evening
- Settle in for a relaxed dinner, a drink (or two), and that famous Santorini sunset. You’ve earned every bite and every sip.
- Hop in a car back to the hotel. After a day of sun, swimming, and wandering, you’ve definitely earned the easy ride home.
Travel Ease Tips:
- Don’t forget to actually sit down, rest, and enjoy the moment.
- The best memories? They’re the ones you share with your favorite people. Savor them.
Day 3: Culture, Character + A Slower Rhythm
Focus: Dive a little deeper into what makes Santorini tick.
Morning
- Start with a leisurely breakfast at your hotel. No alarms allowed.
- Watch the sunrise and the parade of cruise ships rolling in.
Mid-Morning
- Wine tour time. Snacks and lunch are included, because we know what’s important.
- Our tour visited 2 wineries, including spectacular views, history, how to make wine & a multi-course lunch.

Late Afternoon/Evening
- Our tour dropped us in Fira, so we took the chance to wander and see what we could find.
- Wander the alleyways for a bit. Find an outdoor cafe with a view, order something delicious, and let the sunset work its magic.
Day 4: Final views & Departure
Focus: End your Santorini visit on a calm note
Morning
- Take your time with breakfast.
- Snap those last photos of the caldera.
Departure
- Allow extra time for transfers – especially if taking the ferry.
- Pay attention to the weather – strong winds can delay or cancel flights and ferries.
- Ferry Port: Leave extra time to arrive; the road is one-lane with lots of switchbacks, so the trip is slow and steady. It will give you time to get your bearings in the port (especially if it’s your first time). We enjoyed a beer and one of the best souvlakis of our trip while we waited for our ship to come in.

Where To Stay
Best areas for an easy, enjoyable stay
- Area 1: Imerovigli. It’s between Oia and Fira, quieter, and the views are incredible.
- Area 2: Fira. Quick access to restaurants, shops, and things to do. It’s also less pricey than Oia.
- Area 3: Oia. High-end resorts, perfect sunset views, and right in the middle of all the action.
Stay Strategy Tips
- Choose your hotel based on your trip objectives.
- Check the hotel amenities to make sure they match your downtime style.
- Don’t pick a hotel that’s miles from the action.
TRAVEL TIPS FOR A SMOOTHER EXPERIENCE IN SANTORINI
- Pack sneakers or good walking shoes. The alleyways and steps are uneven, hilly, and have seen a few centuries.
- Take as many breaks as you want while wandering. Try a few different restaurants or bars for new tastes and views.
- Bring a water bottle and toss in some Nuun electrolytes to keep you hydrated.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Trying to cram too much into each day
- Picking a hotel in the middle of nowhere
- Underestimating the heat and sun (they’re not kidding around)
- Skipping downtime (don’t do it)
Make the Most of Santorini
The most memorable trips aren’t the ones where you see everything—they’re the ones where you feel present in each moment. This approach to Santorini gives you the space to explore, unwind, and truly enjoy the experience along the way.
